Our Weekly Guide is Back

I am happy to announce that our weekly guide to the Liturgy of the Hours is back. This guide helps Catholics who wish to pray Morning, Evening and Night prayer using the single volume “Christian Prayer”. We have simplified the guide to make it even easier to use than before.

Catholics who wish to pray the Office of Readings and Daytime Prayer should use the four volume edition of the Liturgy of the Hours. We expect that such Catholics would have experience with the Liturgy of the Hours and wouldn’t need the help of a guide.

To receive the guide weekly by email, subscribe to our Liturgy of the Hours mailing list below:

Why is the Guide Being Produced Again?

When our friends at DivineOffice.org produced their website back in 2011, we expected that there would be no need for a printed guide any longer. (You’ll see that they recommend the Academy on their website.) Since help was available, we didn’t see the work as one we needed to continue devoting time to. However, we see that this is actually not the case. Very few Catholics know how to pray the Liturgy of the Hours, and very few are interested in praying with an app or on a website. The printable guide we produce is the best option.

This need was confirmed this weekend when we attended a local meeting for the Dominican laity and found new members struggling to learn how to pray the Hours, and those teaching them having a difficult time doing so.

How to Use the Guide

This guide is intended to be printed and kept in one’s prayer book throughout the week. It may take some practice getting the document to print correctly so that you have it printed on two sides of one sheet of paper with the right layout. This has more to do with your ability to use your printer than the guide itself. Once printed, simply fold it in half and stick it in your prayer book for the week.

We will be posting the guide weekly — ideally on Friday nights — and are posting the first week’s guide here. We hope that you find it helpful.
